Tips On How To Lose Weight And Keep It Off

by Lee Ann Dobbins

There are many programs that help you to lose weight, but very few will help you lose weight and keep it off. For this you need a different strategy.

You have probably experienced some fast weight loss when going on a 'diet'; this is because you have lost excess fluid from your body. This isn't sustainable, and as soon as you go off the diet, the pounds go back on. You need to lose fat to lose weight.

Regardless of all the promises of the diet plans, there is only one way to lose weight and keep it off - you must burn more calories than you eat. This is the only way to sustainable weight loss. It mightn't be fast, but those pounds will stay off.

And you do need to eat, so starvation diets don't work either. Your body just closes down to protect itself when there is not enough food going in. So, the solution is to eat a balanced, good-food diet and be more active every day.

Follow this plan for sustainable weight loss: have 6 smaller meals or snacks in a day, but be careful not to eat more food than normal. Small, regular meals stop you feeling hungry, keep your metabolism rate up and actually make you feel good because you are able to stick to your "diet".

Eat protein at every snack or meal; it prevents hunger. Eat more fruit and vegetables because they contain the macro- and micro-nutrients that your body needs to work properly so you can lose weight. Don't eat highly processed food, because all the goodness has been processed out of it. Wholegrain breads and cereals, skim dairy, nuts and legumes should be part of your daily diet.

To lose weight and keep it off you must exercise your body; anyway, exercise burns calories, increases your energy and improves your mood. Walk, garden, swim, play with the kids, take a class, dance, wash the car - anything that gets your heart rate up is exercise.
