Suit Up: What Kind Of Biking Gear Do You Need?

Biking gear can be a lot of fun to shop for. It makes you feel like a real biker as you whiz down the highway. Bike gear, like clothing, helmets and lights can also contribute to your safety and comfort while on the road. If you want to get really fancy, you can start outfitting your bike with special locking pedals, a new seat (comfy!) and speedster handle bars! You can get carried away - but it is lots of fun to shop for biking gear!

Why Even Look At Biking Gear?

How many people do you know would choose to ride in a car that had no seat belts? And how many people do you know would choose to ride a bike without a bike helmet? In both cases, it makes sense to have these forms of protection besides the fact that at least 21 states require them. This however does not mean that your biking gear has to look less stylish at the cost of making it safe. For example, some of today’s helmets provide superb ventilation, look good and weigh less than what you had for breakfast this morning. There is definitely no reason why you should ride without wearing one. Helmets are however not the only biking gear you will need. Let us consider some accessories you will want to have as well.

Bike Clothing For Comfort, Style and Safety!

Apart from helmets, you will also need to have the right clothing for biking bliss. Besides comfort, the right clothing will serve to protect you from the elements, provide moisture transfer and support muscles. When your body is operating at peak temperatures then you are more likely to enjoy your ride. Ill-fitting shorts and jerseys can cause nasty irritations and blisters to say the least. Good clothing biking gear will cost more than your average shorts and jerseys, but when it fits perfectly, you can be assured to have a perfect ride. A good piece of biking gear clothing is one that has quality build, proper fit and a technical fabric. These are hallmarks of a good piece of biking cloth.

Bicycle Lights - Light Up Your Life

Winter times require illumination and LED-based headlamps installed on your bike will serve that purpose. Some LEDs will give you up to 30 hours of continuous illumination and you should pretty much be able to run well with that. A horn or a bell can also come in handy, especially if you are riding in crowded urban parks or rail-trails. One of my favorite biking gear is a cycling computer. If you want to measure your epic ride trail and know how fast you were going, then you will need this accessory. Some advanced computer equipment come with compasses, sport altimeters and much more. There are even GPS units that you can have on your handlebars to offer unprecedented navigation. Depending on your budget and what you really want out of a unit, computer biking gear can give your ride extra capabilities as well.
